Internal network security is critical as it directly interacts with users but often lacks sufficient protection. Typically, companies use firewalls at network gateways to check all outside traffic before it enters their systems. However, they usually trust all internal network traffic without thoroughly checking it beyond basic anomaly detection.

With more cyber attacks targeting weaknesses within corporate internal networks, relying only on gateway firewalls isn't enough. Companies need to adopt a "Zero Trust" approach within their internal networks to protect against threats from mobile devices, visitors, wireless networks, VPNs, instant messaging, and email. This means redesigning network setups, strengthening extra protections, and setting up defenses that are specific to each part of the network.
